FAQ
Why does my hash differ from the terminal?
Usually a trailing newline: echo adds one (use echo -n). A different encoding (such as UTF-16 instead of UTF-8) also changes the hash.
Are MD5 and SHA-1 secure?
Not for security use. Practical collisions exist for both. Use SHA-256 or stronger for signatures and integrity, and bcrypt or Argon2 (not a plain hash) for storing passwords.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Hashes are computed entirely in the browser on your device.
